WHAT IS WET ROT?

Similar to dry rot, wet rot is a fungus that can affect unprotected timber, infecting the wood and leading to decay. You may be surprised by how much timber exists within your home, from lintels to your flooring joists. Each element plays an important role in keeping your property together, and though less destructive than other species, wet rot can work to threaten your building’s structural integrity and safety.

There are many types of fungus species, but the most common are characterised as white and brown rot, due to their appearance, which can be found in any area of the property, particularly within the roof, around windows and in your basement. Though they feed on different nutrients in the wood, the main cause remains the same, moisture. Wet rot occurs when timber is subjected to great amounts of moisture, and JDN Property Services Ltd.’s job is to discover the source, stop the damp and find the most appropriate wood treatment.

"Was passed Jon's details through our estate agent as damp was discovered during a home report. Jon managed to fit me in and complete the full assessment and works within 2 weeks to allow the property to go on the market. Extremely tidy and professional service back by a 30yr guarantee. Jon's advice is honest and tells how it is whereas others likely to include hidden costs or sell something not needed. Would highly recommend and will use again if needed for any property maintenance."
