February 2026 and Why Our Four Day Week Is Here to Stay

As we move into February 2026, it feels like the right moment to reflect on January. It was our first full month operating a four day working week at JDN Property Services, and it has genuinely changed the way we work, the way we feel, and the way we look at the future of the business.
From the very first week, the difference was noticeable. The team arrived sharper, more energised, and properly ready to get stuck into the day. There is a level of focus now that is hard to explain unless you see it in action. Work is planned better, days feel more purposeful, and productivity has not dropped. If anything, it has improved because people are working with intent rather than fatigue.
This change was never about doing less. It was about doing things properly.
Construction and property services can be demanding, with long hours and constant pressure often accepted as the norm. Over time, that takes its toll. We wanted to challenge that mindset and prove that a business can still deliver high standards without running its people into the ground.
The four day week sits alongside our wider commitment to staff welfare and work life balance. We believe that looking after people properly goes beyond time off. That is why we also provide benefits such as private healthcare and death in service policies, giving peace of mind not just to our team, but to their families as well. Knowing that your health and your loved ones are protected allows people to focus on their work without unnecessary worry.
These are not perks or gimmicks. They are part of how we build security, trust, and long term careers within the business.
On a personal level, this shift has been more meaningful than I expected.
When I was setting up the business all those years ago, I missed a lot of important moments with my older children. Like many business owners, I told myself it was temporary and necessary. Looking back now, some of that time is gone forever.
Being able to attend my daughter’s swimming lessons now might sound like a small thing, but it is not. These are vital moments in her life. Moments where confidence is built, memories are made, and a parent simply needs to be present. Having the space to do that has reinforced exactly why this change matters.
It is about recognising that work is important, but it should not cost you everything else.
One month in, the four day week has already shaped the culture we want JDN to be known for. A business that values balance, trusts its people, and focuses on long term sustainability rather than short term burnout.
We are not chasing trends or making noise for the sake of it. This is a deliberate choice to build a company people are proud to be part of and want to stay with.
The energy within the team is strong, the focus is there, and we feel ready for the year ahead.
For us, this is not an experiment. It is the future of how we work.
